A CHRISTMAS BOOK FLOOD

Icelanders have a Christmas tradition called Jolabokaflod, which translates to “Christmas book flood” in English. On Christmas Eve each year, families come together to exchange books and celebrate with joy. This originated during World War II when paper was one of the few resources not rationed. As a result, books became a popular and meaningful gift to give, making Icelanders into bookaholics ever since.
