I changed to saving notes in my file system folders rather than inside an app. My data is all saved to Dropbox folders so that they are available across all of my devices.

My notes are saved in txt or md format so that they can be accessed by any text editor/word processor/file viewer. I currently use Obsidian as my default Markdown editor.

By being as platform and app agnostic as possible, I avoid locking myself into a particular database and ensure that my notes will be accessible forever and not have to go through the process of exporting/importing to another app in the future. Some platforms really lock you in so that there is no way to get your notes out other than copying and pasting/printing to pdf.
