I'm a OneNote naysayer.

It doesn't offer the same features on all platforms, which is a problem if you are working cross-platform.

There is no way to get information *out* of OneNote (no export functions), not even to switch from OneNote Business to Personal or vice versa. Even printing from OneNote to the printer or a pdf writer doesn't work, except from the online interface. And that means that if you ever want to move to another platform, you're starting over or copying and pasting one note at a time. And what happens when you accidentally delete or a file gets corrupted?

After investigating a number of different options, I have stuck with the simplest: the system folder and file structure. You can still set up a template structure that you work within, and you can put whatever documents you like into it. I sync between devices using Dropbox and stick to file formats that are readable on all of my devices.
