My personal rule is that I have to commit to any new core app (task app, calendar, word processor, email, notes) for two years. I have to use it for two years before jumping to something else, unless it is completely unworkable. Eg it loses my work.

And when I consider any shiny new app, it has to have a significant improvement or address a particular pain point. It can’t just be because someone else I know is using it or that it is shiny and new. For example, switching to a task app that will properly sync across all of my devices and let me add a checklist/template of tasks to a project.
