There are problems that come with apps that put all of your notes into a database, or even a series of notebooks/databases. Will you be using this app forever? If you change your mind or the developer goes under or decides to stop updating or supporting the app, what will you do with your notes?

Is there a way to get them out of the app and into a new app? Can you export them? Convert them? What will they look like when you do?

What if the app crashes and stops working, how will you access your notes?

What if you get so many notes in there that the app slows down too much or there is not enough space on your hard drive to sync the entire database? Or it is too large to index for searches any longer?

I've run into all of those problems at one time or another, and I'm done with notes apps that are restricted to their own database. Getting notes out of or converted to new systems has taken many hours out of my life.

My notes are collected and organized in my system folders, saved as pdf, docx, or text files. Or image files. They are quick to find with Spotlight search and can be opened and manipulated with a variety of different apps. They are synced across all of my devices with Dropbox and backed up both in the cloud and on external drives.
