Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme. Read the rules and more teasers at The Purple Booker. Anyone can play along.

Ink and Shadows is the fourth book in Ellery Adams’ Secret, Book, and Scone Society series, and the first one I have read. The protagonist is not the innocent, law-abiding citizen that usually stands in as the protagonist in a cozy mystery series. She has weathered a number of mistakes in the past, and she and her close group of friends in the society are of the opinion that everyone deserves a second chance.

They welcome newcomer Celeste and her daughter Bren to the small town of Mystic Springs. But avoid getting too attached to them.

As the story unfolds, we’re treated to a world of books, backstories, and best friends. There’s something truly special about the bond between Nora and her friends, and it’s a joy to watch them work together to solve the mystery at the heart of the story.

And I am impressed with the way that the author handled alpha-gal allergy. It’s a topic that is rarely explored in fiction, but Ellery Adams does an excellent job of weaving it into the story.
