We’re not talking about word processing tools. We’re talking about note taking tools.
I used Word for a while as a note taking tool, between my departure from Evernote and arrival at Obsidian, like the author.
The docx or doc file formats are pretty ubiquitous, similar to text files, and it is adequate for taking notes. But it is a large, expensive program, producing bloated files and prone to corruption. There is no inter note linking, no tagging. It takes a long time to boot up, notes don’t auto save, and features on mobile are limited.
I’ve used word for 30 years as a word processor, but didn’t particularly like it as a note taking tool.
